Trying to figure out my holding weight, not so straight forward

Not so straight forward and just a guesstimate, 26" Vanquish riser wound in 3 turns on the bolts, 43# Hex6’s at 26.25" on the button showing 44#, problem is I don’t have decent set of scales (just cheap fishing scales) seems from my Longbows it appears to be consistently showing around 2# less as marked on the scales and as I’m drawing 1" shorter I’m guessing I’m holding around 43 to 44# at anchor.

29" 500 Lightspeed 350g, 3" feathers, 125g point gives me 60y point on (ideal for IFAA 3D), bareshaft showing slightly stiff but I don’t want to increase point weight or poundage as one more turn on the bolts puts me out of my Form comfort zone, at this current setting I’m drilling the 10 ring out to 40y one more turn on the bolts and I start to see a more Form mistakes. I’ve got some 29" 550 Carbon1’s with 120g points on order and I hope these tune a little better.

Today I figured out 70 and 80 yards using riser shelf, felt good to keep them in the score zone at these distances.

Trying to figure out what I need to know (archery gear)

As a total newb, I think I’ve settled on picking up a Samick Sage. Probably with #25 limbs. My thinking is that my wife and I can both use it to learn and practice form and eventually I may buy another with more pull for me.

But what else do we need? I think we’d like to get a sight, I’m hoping it will help us learn to aim a bit better but I have no clue what I am looking for. I *think* Shibuya Dual Click Standard Recurve Sight (Lancaster http://www.lancasterarchery.com/shib…rve-sight.html) looks OK. Seems a bit high but I’d like something that is easy to use and doesn’t require weird tools to adjust or constantly needs adjusting or rattles and falls apart. Any other recommendations?

Arrows. No idea. I see all these numbers and part types but no real idea what I’m looking at. I *think* something carbon (tho, someday, I think I’d like to learn to make wood ones) but I didn’t know they came in pieces? Do you buy tips and ends and everything separate or is there some beginner arrows that are ok for just learning on that come will all the pieces?

Nock? What is that? The little bead on the string? (Sorry, so far just shot at the range with a rental). Does the bow come with that or do I figure out how to put that on? Speaking of, what about strings? Is the Dacron string good at such a low # or should we try something else? And what about stringing it? How do I go about learning that and what will we need?

I know we’ll need to grab some sort of wrist bracer and finger glove/guard, but not sure what I am looking for.

I’d like to set up a target in the backyard… prices and styles seem all over the place. I’ve seen some pictures of some bag types with what looks like a PVC frame that I could maybe construct with a trip to home depot, does that work ok?

What about bow maintenance? Do you do anything to the string?

Sorry for so many questions. Excited to learn but just not sure what I need to learn. I don’t expect answers to everything but any pointers to a web site or book that goes over the various pieces of gear and bow maintenance/upkeep would be much appreciated. I ordered a copy of Shooting the Stickbow: A Practical Approach to Classical Archery that should be here tomorrow, anyone know if it covers the bulk of these questions?

I could talk to the guys at the archery range we go to but it’s just a madhouse. It’s crazy busy, I feel bad being a total newb and holding up the line of 10-15 people behind me while I try and ask what I know must be crazy newb questions. Then I don’t know if they are giving me *good* answers or expedient answers or answers that just get me to buy what they have in stock.

I have seen all lengths of stabilizers and was wondering if there is like a formula to it?
