Anyone have any experience with small bean plots for deer? Thinking of a 2 acre or so plot and maybe doing the fence thing if people have had good results.

Anyone have experience with the Truglo Carbon XS drop away? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

My ripcord code red broke, was my own fault, don’t really want to go back to a whisker biscuit right now and don’t have $ 100 spare at the moment for a better rest, I have a Truglo carbon lying around I got for free, my only concern is bounceback and basic usage, is this rest fine for that? anyone have any experience with it? just need a rest I can use for a few months before I save up money that won’t bounce back up and cause my groups to widen out. Says on the product description " It has the best of both worlds as a full-containment drop-away arrow rest with sealed bushings that put pressure downwards at the time of launch. You can expect no dangerous bounce back from this arrow rest, and it is easily converted to work with a left-handed bow."

First Bow Fishing Experience

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Today I went out bow fishing on Barr Reservoir outside of Denver. It was kind of a slow day, but really fun at the same time. I didn’t think I would like it as much as I did. Here’s my first fish!

Any experience with serving cables at the slide?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I am researching options for a new string and cables, and one local fella who does a brisk business making custom strings was looking at my bow and suggested if I bought from him he would serve the cableswhere they run through the slide, an area where I have seen some wear. His idea made logical sense, but I do not recall ever seeing them made that way. So, what do you think of this specific idea and are there any disadvantages to adding extra serving on cables? On a string?

My liver shot experience…

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

So, I thought I’d post this for those who have never liver shot a deer and wonder about the shot. I know this isn’t always going to be the case, because you can get varying degrees of liver damage, but here it is nonetheless in case someone might possibly find this helpful. So, I have a big doe broadside at 38 eating corn off a stalk. I have to stand on my seat portion of my lone wolf climber, and I’ve replaced the seat with a hazemore mesh seat, but with the stability straps tight, I was surprised to have such a solid base…so I go ahead and step up there to clear a limb. I have been shooting deer a tad back since I had two shoulder bone incidents a few years ago, and at 38 from my perch, I guess I missed 3 inches left of where I was aiming and flat center-punched the liver. I knew it was not a paunch shot and actually thought I got the back of the lungs. She tore off through the corn, and I thought I saw where she crashed. I got down immediately, as it was last 30 min of light. Arrow covered in dark red blood. good blood trail all over corn stalks, but not blowing like a good lung shot…not pouring like a main artery shot. All of a sudden, no blood on stalks, and it is apparent the deer truned and ran down a wide row. I backed out and got a light. I confirmed that the deer did turn and run down the open row, and there was only spots and drops of dark red blood on the ground, so I left. I knew I had to punch liver from what I saw of the shot and what sign I was seeing. After a little research, I came to the conclusion that the deer is probably dead within an hour or less, but I waited two to make sure. Went back out and picked up the trail. Forty yards of spots turned into better blood on stalks as she wobbled side to side. She then turned and started leaving that great "makes no sense" trail and I found her piled up and cold ten yards from there. So, she went all of 80-100 yards and died within 2-3 minutes of the shot best as I can tell. So, If you know you punched the liver…ie, shot was far enough back to make you question lungs and you see no sign of lung blood…and far enough forward that you know it isn’t stomach/paunch shot and the deer doesn’t hunch up and walk like a paunch shot deer will do, the deer is going to die and probably die fairly quickly if you don’t push it to the next county too fast. I’ll say this though, had that deer hit the woods vs staying in the corn field, it would have been one shaky and difficult blood trail to follow….maybe difficult and sparse enough for some to throw in the towel…so if you are confident about hitting the liver, give them an hour or two and stay with it…they are definitely dead.
