First deer with a bow #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I am pretty excited about this! I just shot my first deer with a bow last night. It is a spike, nothing super special, but it is going to eat just fine. It was way more exciting than shooting a deer with a rifle, wow, way more exciting. Talk about up close and personal! Backstraps and heart are in the fridge ready for dinner tomorrow night.

I spotted him first at about 50 yards. He looked up at me when he was at 40. Stared at me for what seemed like 5 minutes. I was in my full UA forest camo, standing on my X-Stand hang-on. Finally convinced himself things were alright and continued grazing on the acorns for a minute or two. I picked up my bow from the Third Hand Archery holder, and he looked up at me again. Was able to get the bow up and ready to draw while he was behind a big oak tree. Drew back while I had a chance. When he got to 21 yards, and into a small clearing from limbs and tree trunks, he looked up again, right at me. As soon as he dropped his head, I let one fly. I was holding the 80% letoff from my Xpedition Xcentric for only a minute or a half, but seemed like a lot longer. Arrow thumped, and he jumped.

The Iron Will S125 performed perfectly! Upper lung shot, the deer was facing me slightly. The arrow hit a little high, but went through the lungs and exited opposite side behind the rib cage. Buck only ran 40 yards after the 21 yard shot and fell dead. Was nice to see exactly where he went down from the stand. I was a little over a mile and a half into a Federal wildlife refuge, so I did call for some help dragging the buck to my truck. It was a late night, but worth it. I think next year, I am going to do some more scouting a little deeper into that refuge. I know there are some much nicer bucks back there.

Second to last pic is entry, last pic is exit.

Sad. Remember to give them time and assume they are dangerous until confirmed dead.

Arkansas hunter killed by deer he thought he had just shot dead

Thomas Alexander, 66, was hunting near the Ozark mountains when he shot the buck and watched it collapse.

Assuming the animal was dead, Mr Alexander went to check on the body – at which point the deer stood back up and attacked him.

He managed to call his wife, who rang the emergency services, but he was declared dead later in hospital.

Keith Stephens, from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, told local media that Mr Alexander’s death was "one of the stranger things that’s happened" in his 20-year career.

Desensitized Deer?!!??? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I was wondering what peoples thoughts are regarding Deer becoming desensitized in public areas? For example at my father in law lives in the city and he has deer that come in his back yard that do not spook very easily. You can be 30-40 yards from them right in the open and they do not move even if they see you. I am hunting a public area this year and it has trails cut out for hiking. There are enough people who use these trails that you would think there should be human scent everywhere. Do you think deer that habitat the public area are less skittish when compared with deer on private property? Just something I have been thinking about recently. I’ve included pictures of the trail and deer for something to look at enjoy

I’ve noticed articles on social media and just watched the Des Moines local news call them “zombie” deer lol. This is just something else for PETA to grasp ahold of. Best Deer Cart: Hawk Crawler, Rack Packer, Versacart, other……? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Looking at getting a deer cart to help carry out deer because I almost had a stroke dragging out a medium sized buck this year. Tried a pulling harness, stick and rope, and pulling from the horns. I know that the Hawk Crawler, Rack Packer, and Versacart are very popular. I’m sure that there are others. Lets say that money isn’t an object.

What is the best cart out there?
