ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — An Alaska man who poached three moose and left most of the meat to rot has been sentenced to nine months in jail and fined more than $ 100,000.

Rusty Counts, 39, of Anchor Point, shot the moose near his community over two weeks in September. He pleaded guilty Nov. 6 to 21 misdemeanor wildlife counts and violations, including wanton waste, exceeding bag limits and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Hunting regulations near the Kenai Peninsula community require moose to have antlers measuring 50-inches (127-centimeters) wide to be harvested. None of the three moose had the required spread, said Aaron Peterson, an assistant attorney general who prosecuted the case.

"The working theory is that he realized they were sublegal and decided not to stick around to salvage the meat," Peterson said Monday. He called the case one of the most egregious poaching events ever seen by Alaska state wildlife troopers.

Alaska officials take seriously the harvesting of moose and salvaging of meat, Alaska Department of Fish and Game spokesman Ken Marsh said.

A bull moose can weigh up to 1,600 pounds (725 kilograms) and feed a family for months with meat free of chemicals and hormones. A successful hunt is also a source of pride, Marsh said.

"It’s a really important part of our culture and tradition, and people take that seriously," he said.

The case began Sept. 2 with a tip to wildlife troopers that a sublegal moose with antlers of about 45 inches (114 centimeters) was shot and abandoned. Counts was the suspected shooter, witnesses said.

A second tip came in Sept. 14. A teacher reported a second dead moose shot the day before. The moose had an antler spread of just 25 inches, (63.5 centimeters), half the legal requirement. The teacher recognized one of the hunters, a former student, with an adult.

Troopers interviewed the boy, who is Counts’ nephew. He confirmed that his uncle had shot the two moose plus a third with a 26-inch (66-centimeter) antler spread on Sept. 7 when he was not with his uncle. Both hunters left their rifles in the woods Sept. 13 to avoid being caught, the boy said.

Troopers interviewed Counts, and he admitted shooting the three moose.

Jeff Selinger, a department of Fish and Game wildlife biologist in Soldotna, said the 50-inch antler requirement extends the hunting season and protects younger mature moose, ensuring that they will be around for future breeding.

Hunters can educate themselves on determining a legal moose by reading regulations and watching department videos. If there’s doubt, Sellinger recommends passing up the shot.

"You’re going to pass up some legal moose doing that, but you’re not going to shoot a sublegal moose," he said.

Peterson backed the hefty penalties for Counts as a deterrent to others. If Counts had salvaged meat from the first moose, he likely would have been penalized for a single hunting violation.

"That meat goes to shelters, food banks. It goes to people who need it," Peterson said. "Instead, we have three bull moose that fully go to waste."

Counts was fined $ 97,650 and ordered to pay $ 3,000 in restitution. He forfeited his rifle and an all-terrain vehicle and was sentenced to 270 days in jail.

"If you do the right thing in the field, this kind of thing doesn’t happen. But if you poach and leave moose, these are the appropriate sanctions, in the state’s view," Peterson said

In Minnesota you have to have food removed 10 days before the start of the season. Is it even worth using a feeder if you have to do this?

Published January 04, 2016FoxNews.com

The body of country singer Craig Strickland was found on Monday, authorities confirmed to FOX411.

Strickland was the lead singer of the Arkansas-based country-rock band Backroad Anthem. He disappeared during severe storms on Dec. 27 while on a duck hunting trip with friend Chase Morland.

The pair’s capsized boat was found that day. Morland’s body was recovered from the lake on Dec. 28.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol Marine Enforcement Division found Strickland’s body Monday morning, authorities said.

"Strickland’s body was located within the original search area known as Bear Creek Cove," authorities stated.

The singer’s wife shared the news on Twitter.

The country singer was 29. He is survived by his wife, Helen.

I just spent the last 2 days @ G5 Prime Bows Summit & & 3D!

G5 Prime had me out to their Summit and 3D! I’m a Hoyt guy, but in preparation for the "class" and shoot I picked up a Prime Rival a few weeks ago. This event was at the Snowbird Ski Resort! Beautiful place! It’s late and the extreme 3D destroyed me!!!
I’ll update this later with more details later, but I wanted to say that the "Summit" was well done and very interesting!
The next morning at 7:30, we all met at the tram to the top of the mountain (11,000 el.). Just before boarding the tram, they announced who would be in what groups. I was shocked when it was announced that I would be in the group with Dave Cousins! He couldn’t have been nice, more encouraging or more helpful.
I made my day!!!

How much to hunt hogs in the USA for 4-7 days?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

In Australia it would be around $ 3000 plus another $ 1000 for flights to get there.
I can fly to the USA for around $ 1400 return.

Bummed…Haven’t Loosed an Arrow in 7 days…

I found it very disturbing a couple weeks back where I posted a couple vids catching a forward angle of my form with my bow hand about 12"-18"s away from the video camera only to witness myself going into the shakes at about 3 seconds of hold time and flat out tremors by 6 seconds of hold time….with a freaking 37# bow….in this vid…not so much on shots #1 & #2 but…shots 3,4 & 5?…were a shakedown horror show…

now I will say this…at that time my bow hand elbow was inflamed whereby as soon as I hit full draw lock?…it felt like fire was being compressed in my bow arm elbow joint…very distracting…but managed to repeatedly put it out of my mind detaching from the pain but I believe it still played a large role of sending me into the shakes.

I’ve also recently put myself back on glucosamine/chondroitin and?…Curamed (which is a tumeric/curcumin oil extract gelcaps) which acts as a wonderful anti-oxidant/anti-inflammatory…and it has helped…along with not so much as drawing a bow for the past week?…the inflammation in my bow arm elbow has subsided…however…and I’ll need to beg your indulgence here to describe it as there’s a bow arm muscle that seems to have been giving me fits before, during and after the elbow inflammation thing as follows…and this is the only way I can describe it…

1. Hold your bow arm out as though you were holding your bow at full draw…

2. Now place your string hand just rearward of your armpit and just below the shoulder…I have a huge muscular lump there that seems to be the muscle which connects my pectoral chest muscle to the lower side of my bicep…and as I run my fingertips across it (moving forward) up and wrapping over the top of my bicep?…that chit is still on fire and hasn’t fully healed yet and it’s pi$ $ ing me off!

Mainly cause I can’t believe that I’ve become so old and wussified that my body can’t even endure a steady diet of 37#s DW?…is this possible?

Now I will note the following…

My stickbow shooting has undergone some serious changes the past couple years…where I usta snap shoot a 54# Bob Lee in one fluid motion aiming intuitively?…I now hold solidly at anchor and maintain full draw for any where’s between 3-8 seconds (pending what I’m working on…or not)…is this what’s enabling a 37# bow to tear me up so bad?

I might also note that this is what prompted me to recently post up inquiring about ultra-light target rigs again…cause I’m missing the he11 out of SHOOTING MY BOWS!..and figured that maybe I just need to reserve the 37#ers for what I have them for…3D & Hunting….and if I’m going to continue to shoot obsessively (such as I tend to do) that I need to knock about 8-10#s off of that to prevent tearing my old joints and muscles up…as some days?…especially on weekend days?…I’ll be off an on out back shooting all day long…loosing anywhere between 200-400 shots on a whole day off at home…but I know this…something needs to change before something breaks here and I’ve gone to far to turn back to my old snap-shooting ways now so…

What say you all?…cause I’m thinking…

1. Rest up and Heal Completely

2. Spend that time shopping for an ultra-light target rig (in like the 24-26# range)

3. Save the 37#ers for "occasional light practice sessions" and 3D/Hunting events

Cause I’ve been backsliding and playing waaaaay to much with my guitars the past week!…justa keep the mind occupied so to speak. 😉

T.I.A. & L8R, Bill. 🙁
