Custom thin/skinny grips for compound hunting bows #archery

Anyone mold or make their own grips before?

Saw a video online of someone using plumber’s putty and a few pictures of other grips done this way, but it made the grips wide and big. Was hoping for something that would work but would be skinny. In short, I’ve found that I like a straight grip somewhere between thin and medium but there are a few areas where I would like to contour the grip slightly. Idea is to start with a thin grip on the bow itself, but a thin grip I can put over it, and find some what to mold/shape it for my hand – not sure how to get this going though.

Best Range Target for Shooting With Broadheads from 70# Compound #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hey all,

Trying to choose an oversize range target for my backyard range (I have safety constraints in place to avoid sky-shots and misses). I plan to put a lot of broadheads into it as I like to practice using what I hunt with on a relatively frequent basis. Not all that worried about price, if it buys value and quality. The target will be kept in an enclosed structure and won’t be exposed to sun or rain.

Looking at targets in the 48"x48" plus size category and hoping everyone could provide some feedback. I tracked down a few old posts, but it seems like there are some new products on the market.

American Whitetail / ArcheryTargets.com – Ballistimat – 50"x50"x20", 300lbs – $ 599 plus freight
Bulldog – K9 Archery Target, plus series – 50"x50"x15", 130lbs – $ 539 plus freight
Block Range Target – 48"x48"x18" – $ 950
Solid Rock – Need to call regarding size options, seems like they can build whatever size I ask for – ???
Blob Targets – Big Blop – 40"x40", 250lbs – price largely depends on freight, likely around $ 500

Thanks in advance,

1990’s Rattlesnake Archery Equalizer Compound Bows #archery

Thank you for letting me join.

The primary reason I joined, aside from enjoying archery, was to gain knowledge and information from those more experienced than myself. I work at a small shop in Pa., and we still have 2 new ( unsold old stock ) Rattlesnake Archery Equalizer bows in stock. My issue is that these bows date from around 1994, the company that made them went out of business in 2003, and the internet seems devoid of information. I know that the bows were designed with pin stops in the cams, and that the design was bought by a larger company and removed from the market, but that is the extent of my knowledge.

Does anybody have any knowledge or experience with these bows?

Lever style bow vs compound bows #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hello. New to the forum. I’ve been googleing and searching here for sometime trying to see if there are any benefits to one or the other as far as lever and compound bows. IS it just the different action? Or is there benefit to one over the other? I love my recurve so I was thinking about going lever and picking up a Phoenix. Any input would be appreciated.

**Edit**This will be for hunting. For now at least.

Compound or Crossbow? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

This debate started between me and a buddy when he sent me a picture of a Robin Hood shot by a crossbow at 70 yards. I replied, "Eh, the one I shot with my Hoyt at 30 yards is more impressive." Some context, my Hoyt had a cobra electraslide from the mid 2000s, a stabilizer (more of a dampener), the original 16 year old string at the time of the robin hood (Stretched and out of tune), an average index release, and Blackout x-5 Envy arrows from Bass Pro. He proceeded to explain to me how crossbows won’t shoot aswell as a compound with cheap stuff. To this I conceded to his greater knowledge on the subject. But these weren’t ordinary run of the mill arrows that created this crossbows robin hood. They were spine indexed, custom fletched, and weight matched.

So my question is. Fully loaded with the most high end arrows and accesories, both high end bows with an average shooter behind each,

Crossbow at 70 yards,

Compound at 30 yards,

Which one shoots a Robin Hood first?

Pick which one you believe would do it quicker with an average shooter at the specified yardage and elaborate as to why you made this decision. Thanks.

HOYT Compound Setup #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hi People, I have just made the transition from recurve to compound. Well i say transition but the truth is i will shoot both.

Im learning lots about Compound setup and have a question that i’m unable to answer from looking online.

My new compound is the HOYT Prevail 37X if this is relevant.
I understand that all compounds have ‘Cam lean’ due to their design so with this in mind do you have what in the recurve world is known as ‘Center Shot’ from the center of the riser?

Assuming the string / cables on my bow are set correctly, and the cams and associated fixing are all working correctly should the string sit in the center of the riser?

I understand that cables and string, cable yolks, cam spacers etc… can be adjusted but is the aim of adjustment to get ‘Center Shot’?

Please be gentle with your replies…

Thank you.
