I have been archery hunting for 3 years now and am finally looking to upgrade my bow. I started out with a diamond infinite edge sb-1 when I was 15 for the adjustability and it has been great, but I am becoming more serious about bow-hunting and want to upgrade.
I have been researching bows and am very interested in the Matthews VXR 31.5 and Bowtech’s sr6 and realm x.
I am not opposed to getting a year or two old bow used but I can also get a discount on the Matthews as i work for a retailer but the only thing I’m not so sure about the Matthews is I’m hearing the draw is hard.
I am open to suggestions and hearing what people have to suggest and or say about diffent bows I should look into. Also worth mentioning is I shoot left handed so I have had a hard time finding bows to try out.

I’ve loved archery since I was a kid. Sadly, since 2001 or so, I haven’t had time or money to get back in. My last bow was a wooden Darton compound and I loved it. Earlier this summer around July, I gave in to the urge to get back into it and wanted to try out a Hoyt. Not a fan boy but it was something I always wanted because of what I had seen and heard. I went in checked out some bows and decided on the Powermax. For one, I didn’t want to spend over $ 1000 on a bow when I have no experience with the new ones, I knew there would be mistakes along the way. Took the bow home, made alot of mistakes and had the regular newbie incidents. Derailed the bow while letting it down in early August, took it in, they checked it out and put it back together shot just fine. The other day I derailed it again, completely my fault. I figure the arrow came off when I put my release on, I probably pushed the nock off the string then tried to fire it. I thought for sure it would be destroyed. Took it in again this morning, they checked it out it looked fine, put the string back on and waiting for my custom strings that I ordered last week. If all goes well I think I’ll keep this bow for my hunting bow. If anyone has any carbon defiant with #2 cams, 70 or 80# max, I will be looking for another bow soon. Also considering one of the ones with quad cams made by G5 for a target bow. Hit me up if you plan on selling something like that in the near future. I want my next bow to be in blackout colors tho.

I am in the process of trying to find a property that I will both live on and will be used for hunting. I’ve been looking for properties in the 15 to 30 acres range mostly, but tomorrow I’ll be looking at a piece that’s 56 acres. When looking at property what are the key things you look for? I’m thinking some good oak trees, any type of funnel and a good bedding area would be key. What else should I be looking for ? Fyi the areas I’m looking are Harrison, Carroll, Columbiana and Jefferson counties, Ohio.

I was just curious what you guys thought about buying used bows. As far as I’m concerned as long as someone has good feedback on here I think it’s a pretty safe bet. Also it’s nice to get last year’s new bow for almost half price. What are your thoughts on buying used bows?

I have the opportunity to buy some recreation land that I will only use for hunting.
There are two tracts I’m trying to decide on and I’d like some opinions.
The first tract is around 40 acres, and it’s 100% wooded. All hardwoods. It’s sits on the southwest corner of a very large block of timber for the area, probably 300-400 acres, with a couple attached 10 acre pieces to west, and then all ag fields. It’s bordered to the south by a county road. To the west and north, it’s bordered completely by timber. I feel there is potential for a lot of deer traffic on the property, however I also feel like I won’t be able to manage it much and there’s likely to be several hunters on the rest of surrounding timber.

The second property is 60 acres, mostly wooded with some open areas. This property is more secluded, with probably 400 acres of woods across a county round to the north. To the east are ag fields. To the south, theres probably an overgrown 20 acres ( looks very thick) then ag fields. To the west, there’s another thick 20-30 acres, then all ag fields. I would likely be able to put in a food plot or two and there likely wouldn’t be any other hunters around, except across the road to the north where the bulk of the local timber is. I feel I could effectively manage this ground, but likely would not have as much deer traffic as the other property.

Which would you choose and why?
