My sister and brother in law are amateur wildlife photographers. It’s their hobby and they live in the boondocks so they get lots of opportunities for a photo shot. These young boys were in the pasture behind my mama’s house. Nice pic I think. Click image for larger version. </p>

Bucks Return During Hunting Season

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Ive been noticing after the last few season here in minnesota, that I do not get ANY summer photos of bucks, but come september or october, i start getting a bunch of photos of bucks… Where do they go during the summer!? Opening day is usually a crap shoot for em, but come october they just start showing up all over. Curious as to others thoughts as to why they reappear later into the fall. Ive heard of it vice versa, leave during fall, return in the summer.

Aging Urban bucks?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

IMAG0367.jpgIMAG0366.jpgIMAG0372.jpg

I am having a hard time aging this buck. My gut is telling me just 2 1/2 but something tells me he could possibly be a three year old. I think i’m fairly good as aging bucks but this guy is a urban buck that doesn’t have access to corn and beans, so he’s much thinner and younger appearing that other bucks.

How old do you think this 8 is?

For reference i’ll include a buck I believe to be 5 1/2+ and 6 1/2 below, from the same urban spot.

A couple of nice North Carolina bucks

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

So I’m on vacation out here on Bald Head Island, NC, and look out the back window the other night and there are 3 bucks feeding in the back yard.
Two of them were pretty nice so I grabbed the camera and got a few pics.
May have to schedule the vacation a little later next year and bring the bow

Footrot on bucks

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I sent these pictures to KDWP to have them try and tell me what is wrong with two bucks which have no exposed pads on their right rear hooves. KDWP in turn sent them on to Georgia, I believe. The response I got is a "best educated guess" that both bucks have footrot. Not that I can’t accept their explanation, but it seems unusual that two bucks of the apparent same age would have the exact same problem with the same hoof. I get to watch a lot of deer year round and I’ve not seen any other deer with this problem. These pictures were taken three weeks ago. As expected, it is affecting their antler growth on the opposite side. Anybody else see deer with this problem?

2 pieces of property and no good pics of big bucks

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Hey all,
I am fortunate enough to hunt on two properties. One is 27 acres(which my father in-law lives on) that is surrounded by 3 corn fields that add up to another 100 acres. Think like a horse shoe…the empty space in the middle is my father in-laws land and the surrounding "shorseshoe shape" are the corn fields his neighbors own (who dont hunt).
The other property is 150acres which is surrounded by other plots of land where people do hunt. this is all woods with 3 different grassy fields, but there are some farm fields with-in quarter mile as well. This property is new, we just bought last year.

Last year…we had lots of nice 8 pointers and 10 pointers on camera at my fathers house property(the horseshoe one), however, only one eight pointer was shot…nothing else mainly because we spent most our time at the new 150 acre property. This property was just bought last year and we didnt have time for scouting accept to see some rub areas which we set-up stands around. We actually shot a monster 10 point last year at this new property. Anyways, to make a long storry short….we set camera’s up everywhere at the new property and the old horseshoe property.

We were surprised to only see tons of doe and younger bucks. I mean a lot! We left the cameras out for about a month and there wasnt a day or camera with out a deer on it…and not just single deer…we are talking some days had groups of lots of deer but there was NOT anything bigger than a younger 6 point which is crazy because like I said, at the horseshoe property, no one else hunts and last year was actually the first year we didnt hunt it hard and only took one eight pointer and the new property showed LOTS of does and actually a really good amount of young bucks but nothing big. So what gives? Where did all the big boys go haha. My father in-law is friends with most the surrounding land owner hunters and everyone had a bad year last year so we all expected to see lots of big deer this year…I live in new york by the way.
