As a bow hunter, nothing is more fulfilling to me than placing an arrow right where it belongs and watching an animal die quickly. Its the most respectful thing we can do for the animal. Practice, make sure your gear is in check, take your time in the heat of the moment, and deliver an arrow right where it belongs so the animal passes quickly.

Last week I eased out of work at 4:15(I live close to work). I slipped behind my house, stood by a large live oak, and at 5:15 I was dragging a nice doe out of the woods to have processed.

She was quartered to me at 25 yards. I delivered the arrow center of the shoulder facing me. Watched the lit nock go through her and to the ground. She was down in 20 yards or so.

D6 broad heads? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I purchased both the muzzy trocar deep 6 and the nap killzone deep 6. I have heard about the killzones not opening. Could i simply take a piece of sand paper and take a quick swipe on each of the notches that hold the blades in to make it easier for them to open? Also anyone shoot any deer with either?

My son’s bow shoots pretty darn good with fp. He puts a bh on and it shoots high. About 2 1/2" high. I didn’t weigh it I will tonight. If it weighs 100 grains how do I fix it? Do I just move the sight or should I move the rest a little? What is the best coarse of action. Thinking his arrows might be a little under spined would that cause this? Need a little knowledge from all who would share.
Thanks
Ron

Increasing arrow and broad head weight

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I’m less than a year into bow hunting and addicted. I was sold 500 spine arrows when I bought my bow (beman ics hunter).

I have 27.5" draw length. Initially bow was set to 50#, now 60. Overall arrow length is 26.5".

I’m concerned my arrow weight maybe too light for hunting (or not optimal at least). I’ve been shooting nap killzone broadheads, 100 grain.

I’m interested in trying two blade fixed broadheads and something heavier.

I’m looking at vp penetrators at 150 grains and the carbon express 250 pile drivers.

I’m ok with losing speed, I want solid penetration.

Does this sound like a reasonable combination? Any suggestions? Am I totally off track?

Disclaimer: I will discuss this with a pro shop before pulling the trigger; I’m brainstorming something fierce and would love some feedback.

Need alittle broad head help

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I am having alittle problem getting them tuned and need alittle advice . I have a Strother Valor and I’m trying to get my broad heads to hit . There close , they hit to the left of my FP’s about 4 " left at 40 yards 5-6 " at 60 . I tried to move the rest alittle to the right about 1/16 " or so but still about the same . Tried axis and gold tip with slicktrick , stutte T , with the same results . What can I try ?

Broad head tuning

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I just went back to fixed broads heads this year and killed two deer this weekend with the same broad head which says a lot for slick trick. I noticed though that compared to where I aimed and the ending result that something was wrong. I did what most do and just went hunting and got lucky. I went on AT and found out how to broad head tune but have a issue. I think it is the bow but not sure. I shoot a elite Z28 and a QAD rest. The rest is maxed out on elevation so I can’t bring up the broad head. By the way it looks this had to be done to get the rest to lay right on the shelf. What else can I do to correct the issue myself.

Broad head flight question

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

How critical is it to have your fixed broad heads aligned with your fletching for proper broadhead flight? Currently my broadheads are not aligned with my fletching and every arrow is different.

I am having difficulty getting my broad heads to impact like my field points. I have paper tuned then walk back tuned and now broad head tuning and am really struggling with my broadhead tuning. Up until that point I was fine. I felt I got good arrow flight. I am micro tuning my rest for matching impacts but it is so sensitive to adjustments that I am driving myself nuts. I literally feel like I am adjusting my rest in 1/32 to 1/64 adjustments with marginal results. My broadhead impact the same as my field point up to 30 yards. After that, at 40 yard shots, my field points impact 4 inches to the left of my broad heads with good elevation. My 50 yard shots my field points impact low 2 inches and 6 inches to the left of my broadheads. I haven’t shot at 60 yards.

I am shooting a Hoyt Alphamax 32 with a 29" draw at 61 lbs. My arrow is an Easton FMJ 400, 29" long with 100 gr Trophy taker shuttle t broad heads. My fletching is flex fletch fhp 200.

Any suggestions would be helpful. I leave for my archery elk hunt on thursday and time is running out.

Rick
