short vs long brace heights #archery

Ok this is just something Ive been pondering. Like alot of us on here Ive been slinging arrows for a LONG TIME. All of our archery lives weve heard that a longer brace height is more forgiving. I understand that an arrow clipped to a string on one end and sitting on a rest at a given point down the shaft is more "stable" we’ll call it while its just sitting there. But it seems that the shorter the brace height is then the sooner the arrow will be free and clear of any shooting imperfections we may have and be on its way downrange. When I have always heard the opposite. That you need to have a more perfect form to shoot a short brace height. The reason all of this came up for me is that I have never shot a bow with a brace height shorter than around 7 1/2 inches or more. Recently I traded one of my Mathews Legacies for a Monster 6.0. I really didnt think I could shoot the little 6 inch brace since my follow through isnt always top notch. I think I sometimes prematurely begin to close my relaxed hand to hold the bow too soon after the shot etc etc. And then the dreaded target panic will rear its ugly head at times but to my surprise I’ve been grouping with it probably better than ever which got me to thinking that perhaps JUST PERHAPS a shorter brace height can at times even be beneficial to a less than perfect shooting form rather than the other way around like we’ve always heard.I mean for years we were told that eating wheat bread and drinking orange juice was good too but now we’ve figured out the opposite. Lol . So maybe the short brace height thing needs re evaluated. ? Lol …….I dont know just a thought…

5″ brace thoughts #archery

I can’t find a Halon 5 to try and there is rarely one in the classifieds. I’m curious if it’s because it really is tougher to shoot or people are just more comfortable at 6+". I currently shoot a 6" brace but I know at my T-Rex draw of 26.5 I would benefit from the added speed. Any thoughts?

Question over brace height:

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Completely new to Archery so please forgive my lack of knowledge.

I have recently bought a second hand recurve bow after completing a 6 week introduction course and then joining a club.
The bow is a SF Premium + riser at 25" and SF premium limbs at 26Lb giving me a 66" bow. This was a recommended beginners bow with low poundage initially while i learn to shoot correctly.

My question is one of brace height… i have bought a cheap string from Merlin Archery recommended for a 66" bow but when i assemble the bow and measure the brace height the distance is 9.5 inches.
The recommended brace height for my limbs is 8 – 8.5" so my question is how can i reduce the brace height?

I had twisted the string 5 full twists initially prior to measuring and i have not looked at the limb bolts as yet. i thought i would ask first but the limb bolts do seem to be wound out a fair distance giving about 5-8mm of play when the bow in un-strung.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Axle to axle and brace heigth measurement adjustment?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I am working on installing my new string and cable set (first time doing something like this). I am supposed to have an axle to axle of 33" and a brace height of 7", I got the A2A set at the 33" but the BH is at 7 1/4". What do I adjust to get the BH to the 7" and not adjust the A2A? This is on a 2010 High Country Iron Mace 70# 30" draw. Slaved trinary cam system.

Thank you

(How Much) Does Brace Height Change with String Material?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hi all,

Once you find the sweet spot brace height for your bow, does it change if you change string material, say from FF to B50? I’m guessing the answer is "yes, but not too much," but I was curious to see if you guys find that the spot is always the spot, or if there can be massive shifts.

Brace height problem with Shakespeare rh200

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I’ve been registered with AT for a while, but this is the first time I’ve actually posted. You guys have some great information here, and I want to thank you in advance for any help you can give me.
I’m shooting a ’59 Wonderbow rh200, 60′. I bought a 56" Dacron string, but the brace height was only about 6′ at this string length! I had to put over 40 twists in the thing to get it down to 7.5! (I found one site that listed 7.5 as the recommended BH) I’m reluctant to put a shorter string on it, but I don’t see an alternative. Is there something I’m missing here?

Regards,
Chris Henderson
