Are there any vids of traditional bows vs. ballistic gel?

I have been looking for ballistic gel vids dealing with traditional archery, recurve and longbow. Can’t seem to find much. Anyone have any vids on this subject?

Are compound bows easier?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I have only shot a recurves with no stabilizers, scoops, releases, or anything special. I am wrong to think a compound bow with all it’s features are a lot easier?

Natural looking bows

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

In the future I will be ordering a custom bow that I have always seen in my mind, but never in person. I am hoping to see a picture of what I am visioning.

The riser is a very natural color. It looks "untouched" or "unfinished"
I do not know if it is ash, or hickory, or curly maple, or what. It is almost a cream look maybe. An off white.

If any of you have pics of bows that resemble this description, could you please post them along with what wood is used?

How fast were arrows shot from “ancient” bows?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Given that the longbows recovered from the Mary Rose had an average length of 1.98 meters (about 6.5 feet), and knowing how fast the generally shorter longbows are today, how fast were arrows usually moving when shot from a traditional longbow back in "ancient" times?

What about ancient recurves, given that those apparently go back to at least 4,000 BC? About how fast were they likely to go?

Mounting lights and bipods on ‘bows?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

What would be the best way to mount a light for night-time predator hunting? And does anyone make a bipods for x-bows? I was trying to think of a way to mount and accessory rail where my quiver would mount now. I was hoping someone had done this before.

“The only difference between bows from 2009 and 2013 is four years and $500.”

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I have a buddy that’s going to Montana with me this fall to chase elk on his very first bowhunting trip. He’s on a tight budget and will be looking to outfit a full archery setup for around $ 500. I recommended the 2009 Elite GT500 to him, knowing that it’s a solid bow with modern specs. Regardless of brand choice, I encouraged him to shop for used gear, as I see little additional benefit gained from spending the extra cash on the latest models. Basically, the new stuff is not improved enough to justify the added expense when considering pure function alone.

Just thought I’d throw this out for discussion, knowing that this idea is completely subjective. Tell me why I’m right or wrong.

Who wants to build a portable press that will work on past parallel limb bows?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I love to tinker and we havent seen a decent portable press yet for pse bows and whoever else makes past parallel limb designs. I have access to a last chance press and i was observing how the limbs are compressed. I dont see a reason why a portable method that achieves the same result couldnt be made. I have a bow master with the split limb adapter already which is a tad tedious but it does work on regular limbs well enough for the average archer. I think a bracket could be made that utilizes the bowmaster cable type idea without too much trouble. I would like to see this made by a few of us on AT and plans made available so we can all use it and not for the idea of selling it. The last chance presses are great but at $ 400 minimum to get in the game its rather spendy. I have some access to machines but not alot. Guys with welding skills, mills, lathes chime in maybe we can come up with something. I would like to design it to be assembled without tons of machining so the average dude can make it. If we gotta make parts from scratch and sell them even at cost someone would probably sue us so i would like to avoid that if possible.
