2017-2018 Deer Season is in the books #archery

While nothing like 2016-2017 when I harvested three 10 point bucks, one making P&Y, this season was not a disappointment. I managed to get a nice nine pointer in my home county, three "management" bucks and a doe. Lot’s of great meat and wonderful memories. God bless this country for the opportunity to hunt these beautiful animals and God bless them as well. Life is good.

Anything new out there? Read a lot of them just looking for something to read during this winter up here. I have read one of Rothaar books and a couple Wensel books but the others are expensive and hard to find. Have read the Higgins and Herndon books also.

Opening day is in the books for Idaho.

Yesterday evening was full of sevral deer encounters with a couple shotopportunities as well. I had 2 bucks and a doe between 27 and 35 yards from my slightly elevated blind around 18:30 til dark had to slip out hoping not to spook any bigger bucks or the 3 in front of me. I will put him in my back pocket for now. Not great images but ok for a cell phone. Elk season starts the 6th of September for my Panhandle tag. If the buck in the pick qould have been symetrical on both sides I would have taken the shot. To his right was another buck that was close to the same size. They just looked to be a little young still.

Rookie Q’s, Tools needed? String Q’s?? Books???

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

First – Thank you in advance for your assistance. Being new to traditional shooting, I have a few questions…

1st – Tools needed?
I am getting tired of finding out I need something, hitting the internet and placing a small order and having to wait to get it.
A) What tools do you feel are essential to have at your home shop? <Rubber Bands, Bow Square, Sharpie pins, glue – Big or small, please, I need it all 🙂 >
B) What tools do you carry in your bag (your traveling kit when you go to the range, or out of town to shoot)?
C) Also, what do you use for a tool bag (I know an organized tool bag is usually better than just throwing tools in a bag)?? Feel free to provide pics if you can.
* Viper1 – if this is in your book, I have not gotten that far.

2nd – Strings??
A) Do you have a string for every set of limbs or bow?
B) When you take your string off your bow, how do you keep it so it does not lose or gain twist?
C) I assume you need to take measurements and log the info to keep consistency?

3rd – Books???
I purchased the book "Shooting the Stick Bow" (Thank you Viper1). This is a VERY, very good place to start (I have not read the whole book, but I am on my way). Viper’s book answers a lot of questions (and more importantly, answered a lot of questions I did not know to ask). Are there any other books you would recommend?

Thank you!!

Would there be any interest in nicely designed handbound archery books?

I’m about to enter into a contract to bring one book which was out-of-print back into print, but am still trying to work out how to print and bind it.

I’ve done hand-binding before, including Western casebound hardcovers w/ sewn spines, but don’t much like them (they require a lot of bulky equipment), preferring instead Chinese-Japanese-Korean stab bindings as well as the Japanese multi-section book (retchoso — one or both of those “o”s should have macron accents).

Which would you prefer?

Here’s an example of my hand-binding:
