What has your experiences been with single piece broadheads? Do you prefer 2 or 3 blade? I am looking at using RMS Cutthroat 125s with a right bevel if I can get an arrow setup going for this fall. I am open to looking at double bevels or 3 blades as well. 3 blade heads seem much easier to sharpen, but I am willing to take the time and learn how to sharpen a single bevel.
Is there an advantage to either? The straight blade heads like VPA, Grizzlystik Samurai, and Cutthroat seem like they would be easier to sharpen, and I would think that a straight blade would penetrate better.
But, the Grizzlystik Maasai with curved blades is super popular as are Kudupoint and others.
I got my self a blade rest and want to set it up. Have only used drop aways in the past. Have searched the forum and got some good with threads from nuts and bolts. However some of the pictures are no longer showing. I’m hoping some one might repost the instructions with the diagrams.
Trying to find an accurate big cut fixed blade for upcoming bow season. Been having some mixed results. I’ve used slick trick mags in past they shoot good with my rig but want to use a stronger head- had a lot of blades break in past. Really want to use the Magnus black hornets but dont’t seem to be grouping as well. Has anyone had these issues or do I need to tune up my bow? Hitting right with field points with some of the heads and a 4-5 inches off with others. Switched out the arrows with some of the heads and that helped but never had to do this before. My ironwills hitting dead on so think my bow in tune. Groups were at 45 yds. What should I do
Being I’m going to be cobbling a bow together for my daughter for target shooting, I’m curious of peoples opinions on which blade style rests to consider. I’ve only used the fall aways, the HDX ultra rest specifically, but I do like the idea of a "non-mechanical" rest for her considering containment isn’t really as much a concern for target shooting. I appreciate the feedback – Thanks
I have what was referred to as a hard Arkansas stone (I think) when I got it 30 something years ago. I keep it clean but it has developed a small bevel or indention over the years from sharping knives. I can get a broadhead pretty sharp but not scary sharp with it. Not really shaving without quite a bit of effort. I would rather not buy a sharping system but just a stone that would put the final touches on it. What stone would put the sharpest point on it.
I used the Grim Reaper last year and shot a 180lb 8 pointer….hit near perfect on a broadside shot at 30 yards, arrow went across chest and vanes stopped dead center inside his chest cavity (broad head punched through opposite side). Could not believe he ran about "250 yards" and that’s motivated me to look at Rage or other…
I’m tempted to stick with the Grim reapers because they flew good, UNLESS someone convinces me to switch to Rage (above).
My setup—Mathews Helium (beloved); 28.5", 400 grain Easton Axis n-fused, 58 or 59 lb draw weight.
Greatly appreciate 1st hand experience with either of these heads–should I stay the course with the Grim Reapers or switch to Rage??
