making a broad head arrow tip
Video Rating: 4 / 5

Bowhunting Whitetails Test: Do deer jump the string of a bow or the arrow and broadhead? We show a Mathews Switchback bow at 30, 60 and 80 yards using Rage, Montec, Slick Trick, Muzzy and Tekan broadheads to see how the bow sounded upon release compared to the arrow and broadhead as it hit the target. No real conclusive results. But it sure was fun.

arrow versus bolt?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I need an answer form the tinkerers on here.
Two arrows are shot. Both weigh 450 grains.
arrow one is a 450 grain 29 inch arrow @300fps.
arrow two is a 450 grain 20 inch crossbow arrow @300 fps.
After 40 yards will there be any difference in the penetrating capability/arrow flight of these two arrows?

Safe hunting arrow length?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

How many people shoot arrows that match their draw length? Is this merely a safety factor or do you prefer the longer arrows for some other reason (easier to match spine, tuning, etc.)?

Personally, I have been shooting 27.5" arrows and I have a 29" draw length. Trying to draw every last ounce of speed out of the bow I can get.

Hunting Arrow Advice

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I hunt deer in Illinois.

So.. I’m looking to setup a hunting arrow for my 45# Hoyt Excel w/ med black max limbs for the coming fall. I’m really liking the Goldtip Trad 3555s I’ve been experimenting with. My draw length is settling in at about 28 3/4".

I only purchased a few shafts to experiment with and I got a bit zealous and cut them to 30 1/8", standard GT inserts, and 125 grain field points. When the tuning was done i got them to tune perfectly. However, my limb bolts are completely cranked down (maybe not a bad thing for hunting) with brace height set to 8 1/4".

According to Stu Miller’s calculator. My GT trad 3555, 30 1/8", 125gr heads, are 415 grains, 9.3 GPP, 14.8 FOC, 193 FPS, and 34.3 ft-lbs KE..

So my question is….

Should I leave well enough alone and keep the setup as is and just pick at 125 grain broadhead, tune it and go hunting?

OR

Should I goto a heavier broadhead in the 150 grain range and backoff the limb bolts a little to get it to tune?

OR

Should I cut some shafts a bit longer and keep the 125s, and back off the limb bolts for tune and have the ability to adjust my tiller?

Also, what would be a good broadhead for my setup?

Arrow weight selection

Hello, I recenlty bought a used bow and they guy gave me a bunch of arrows. 6 were Carbon Express 250 arrows, the other were eastons and a couple GT’s. The Eastons and GT were same length, however, the carbon express were all shorter. Different spine than 250. I think maybe 400? . the bow is sighted in with the weight arrows the guy gave me. I just bought arrows at bass pro and the guy cut them same length as the eastons, it was x5 bass pro he said were same at GT, I know the 5 is not the best tolerance But my question is how much will the difference in arrow affect the sighting in with this new arrow if they exact same length and same grain head.
