Illinois buck without antlers #archery

We were hunting past weekend and my friend shot what he thought was a doe. After closer inspection we found out it is actually a buck without antlers. When we report it we select "buck without antlers". Basically it was a young one. Antlers have not penetrate thru skin yet. Now is a question. One guy told him if the antlers are shorter then (he thinks 3") it counts as antlerless deer , which is a doe tag. So basically he still can shoot two bucks this season.
Is that true? He don’t want to get in trouble. If he shoot two more bucks.

Still holding antlers

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I have been shed hunting the last few weeks and haven’t found anything on either property I’ve got access to. This past week I put out a camera and some corn in an area I plan to put my food plot. To my surprise many of the bucks on camera are still holding one or both sides of their antlers. Anyone else seeing the same thing? I do have a few that I can tell have lost both sides though. And a small herd of does as well.

Redneck 101 Darkening bleached antlers

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I am just trying to be helpful with this redneck tip. Take a bleached white antler & give it the closest thing to original color that I have found & I have tried a bunch of different things. I use Old English scratch cover made for furniture. The only two colors or tints I have found are for light wood & dark wood. The light wood looks good on the skulls but isn’t dark enough IMO for the antlers but the dark wood is just that to dark IMO. I mix the two until I get the tint I want. some may like the dark tint better. just wipe it on or spray it on & wipe off the excess so it doesn’t leave puddles or dark spots. been using this stuff for years & none of it has ever came off. the pictures show a white rack & skull . skull is sprayed with light cover, rack is untouched. 2nd picture shows a rack that was just as white as the other one covered with my mixed cover tint. I think they look ok & just hoping to maybe help others .old english 003.jpgold english 005.jpgold english 006.jpg
