Live Action! Oklahoma Deer Hunt 2015!

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Good afternoon all! It’s Mid-November here in NE Oklahoma and i have put in for a week of Vacation Nov. 22-29. This falls directly on the first week of Oklahoma’s Deer Gun Season to which i Have decided i will be BOW Hunting during that time!!! Some may say that is bad timing, but i have noticed over the years that there is still a lot of Mature Buck activity during those days on my property. The last 8-9 years have provided me at least one chance at a 140-160 buck. I believe this trend will continue as i have not seen any mature deer movement the last two weeks, only young bucks going crazy.

I’ve done a thread like this before and it was a blessing and i hope others will find it a blessing as well. Come along for the ride if you’d like! Ask questions, give input, share your stories!!!! I love archer to archer interaction on these threads!

Before i share a little about myself and the land i hunt, i want to Give Praise and Honor to My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for forgiving me of my sins and giving me Eternal life! He is my everything and my all in all. I was burdened with the guilt of my sin for years and Christ showered me with His love and mercy and took all of my sin and burdens. Hallelujah! Jesus Christ didn’t come into the World to Condemn the World, He came to Give Eternal Life and Peace with God. Blessed be the Name of our Lord!

God has also blessed me with my Wife (of 10 years) and Three Kids (and one on the way!) I have a job and a home and for that i am sooo thankful!

I am a Full time Pastor as well as having a Secular Job. Our Ministry is Gospel Focused, Sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. We Teach By Grace Alone Through Faith alone in Christ Alone! We also teach Holy Living for Born again Children of God through the Teaching and Study of The Holy Word of God (Just in case anyone was wondering!)

OK…some info about me and the land i hunt…

I will have pics and maps up here in the next couple of days so if you have any questions or want to see something i will do my best to provide you with it here.

I am 31 and originally from The East Coast…I got into deer hunting because of my father-in-law about 8 years ago. I started with ML and went to Rifle and then about 3 years ago i tried bow hunting and i got hooked! I mostly hunt with my bow (Will have info on that later)

I have killed some decent deer and have missed opportunities on some monsters. Regardless of the outcome of the hunt, i am just sooooo blessed to have this opportunity, the land, the ability, the supportive wife and kids.

I hunt around 300 acres of wooded ridges, bottoms, and open fields. It is all private. It is family land and i am so thankful to be hunting it.

I have around 8 different sets that i would like to try…

The weather is suppose to drop into the 50′s for a high on Saturday and the lows in the 30′s. This part of OK hasn’t experienced those type of Temps so i fully expect to see some deer move that i haven’t seen yet.

I FINALLY decided to invest in some cameras and i put them out last weekend and i will check them the first day of the hunt and give you guys an update on some creatures roaming the land.

Please feel free to chime in and ask questions or give suggestions.

My prayer is that this thread is a time of good fellowship..i hope you guys enjoy the ride…May God get all the Glory!

Some bucks on my wall…

Woah back in action need some thoughts

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Howdy everybody, as I was walking the woods today looking for a good spot for a late season bait pile, I was relatively close to one of my hang ons. I figured, I might as well go check it out and see if there’s anything new. For background info, I set this up stand up over a small scrape in early November. When I came upon the stand, the same scrape from over a month ago has nearly tripled in size! There were fresh hoof scrapes in it, I’m guessing from this morning. Now here’s the thing, I’m still in high school so I can’t make an AM sit until the weekend. I’ll be out there tomorrow night. My question is, how long will a deer/s use the same scrape? I’m hoping it doesn’t go dry. This is probably a silly thread but I’m excited that the site is still active and wanted to hear some thoughts.

Red elm or action boo

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Ok so I am working with a bowyer at this moment to get a new longbow and I seem that red elm seems to be a pretty popular core material. Why is this? Is there an advantage over an action boo core? The bower has both available but he usually uses action boo so I would think that’s what he prefers but I wouldn’t mind hearing others thoughts on the subject.

Wildgame inovation action cam review

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I borrowed a GoPro from a friend and the shot at 20 yards looked like I was shooting 50-60 so I wanted a "action cam" that had a zoom.after looking for a few days I found the Wildgame Innovations action cam.It can be bought for anywhere from 119.99 on Amazon and up from there.Comes with waterproof case and a few useless cam mounts

http://www.wildgameinnovations.com/p…l#.UhVrFuCTaFI

I read tons of reviews and they were either good or bad,not much in between.I ordered it from Cabelas and it came in today.First thoughts when I opened the package were it was very light, but about twice the size of the gopro, still small enough for bowhunting though. The next thing I saw is that the mounts totally suck for the hunter. No scope mount,no bow mount.Just a hat clip mount and a few others that are totally useless if you ask me.I went to the 3D range tonight and I had my friend just hold the camera to take some videos of me shooting my bow.The setup and use of the cam is super easy and with one tap of the power button within 2 seconds it was ready to record from the sleep mode it goes into with an inactivity of 30 seconds or more. The videos are nice and clear and on the 4X setting a 25-35 yard bow shot is easily identifiable. This cam is also IR and will try and get a few vids of that also.Heres a vid with a hyena target at 29 yards and the cam at 4X

Black Panther(yea I know there are tons around here!!LOL) at 27 yards

I just wanted to share my quick experience with it.I will be fabricating a bow mount tomorrow and shooting it a few times mounted to my bow and will throw the vids up also. Then next week with any luck have some video of a bear going down with it!!
