Low stomach hit #archery

I got my dad out bowhunting this year for the first time in over 10 years. He practiced a lot and ended up shooting a nice buck but hit low and back.

There was stomach matter and a lot of white hair on the ground at the point of impact with no blood on the arrow so we gave the buck 12 hours before starting the track and had decent dark blood. I ended up getting in a nearby stand while he tracked just incase it was still alive so I could see where it went.

He ended up jumping the buck out of his only bed which ran by me moving fast at 30 yards. I shot an arrow and unfortunately hit a tree and missed while trying to lead the running buck. I could see part of the stomach hanging out the lower abdomen while it ran past which leads me to believe the belly was sliced open and the arrow never really traveled through the body.

There was no blood after that and we grid searched everywhere within 400 yards the next 2 days with no luck.

I ended up checking a trail camera several hundred yards away a few days later and the buck walked past the camera still alive 50 hours after the shot. The stomach area looked very swollen but not bloody, obviously he had clotted up before then.

I’m pretty confident the buck will die or is already dead from the shot but just wondering if anyone has had a similar situation and if the buck somehow managed to survive.

Let me know your thoughts.
