Ethical hunting and passing on shots ? #archery

Yep I recently ,mentioned in Another thread; that im 59 and 2019 was my first year Bowhunting. I’m fortunate that 2 friends learned an area over the years, set up stands, put out corn on a regular basis. One friend allowed me to use his stand as often as I wanted. The other friend offered me his stand, but wanted his 10 year old son to first harvest a deer and I completely understood. My first time out was the day after opening day. After making all the rookie mistakes like slamming car doors; using my key to Lock the doors and make that alarm sound; and banging every possible object while climbing the tree stand- I finally settled in. About 2 hours in, I had 2 does within 20 yds and a 10 pointer at 30 yards. I’ve made that shot 100 times on the range, but I passed that day.

Why ? – I just didn’t feel right about shooting that buck in an area my friends worked so hard at developing and where a 10 year old was hoping to take his first deer. ( would have been my first deer also). I just couldn’t do it as I didn’t feel it wasnt right. I passed on many other shots in cases where it was getting close to dark and I knew my tracking skills were not yet developed or where the shot was a little sporty and I wasn’t confident of a sure kill.
So,I wondering how many of you and how often do you pass on shots ?
