Assuming barebow how imperative is following eye dominance #archery

The school I work at wanted to start an archery club so they asked me and the new young PE teacher, Sam to go to the NASP training. I’ve shot for over 20 years and Sam had never shot before. When we did the eye dom test Sam was clearly left eye dominant so he was encouraged to shoot a left handed bow.

He was a mess. His arrows were all over the place, he looked awkward and he slapped his arm multiple times. Sam is a very good athlete too. He asked me what to do and I said “before we came here and found out you were left eye dominant you didn’t do too bad back at the gym” and I told him to switch back to right and close his left eye.

By the time we were done he was shooting very well, didn’t look awkward and more importantly never slapped his arm.

So I have a hard time, as a coach, telling a kid he needs to switch the bow to match his eye dominance. I like to lean on hand dominance over eye dominance. Is that a bad thing?
